The name of the waterfall came from a dialect in the Jaintia Hills. Krang means cave and Suri means a special type of sharp weapon that looks sickle-shaped.
Local people believe that Krang Suri had been being used as the secluded natural arsenal by the kings of the Jaintia empire during that days. Some caves of the place would be used to hide the deadly weapons and only a few loyal commanders knew about it. A larger portion of the place was strictly prohibited for general people. Moreover, royal loyal commandos of the tribal army only used to go to the place to collect their weapons before any battle or any emergency.
